Angelfish using fins as warning devices!

Have you ever seen your angelfish flash their fins, making them look bigger and sometimes more menacing than when they were all relaxed?

Well, there is a good reason for that.

When angelfish get scared, or feel that there's a predator around, they will usually display their fins. You will normally see them do this when they are trying to show off to others that they are the "king of the area".

Yes, when another angel enters into a territory, the dominate fish will try and scare the other off by flickering their fins.

Next time, take a closer look at your fish, and see what they are doing.

Angels are beautiful creatures, and complex too. Every one of them has their own personality.

Enjoy

Angelfish use their pelvic fins to taste and grope for food, but they also use their feelers as warning devices when coming out of a hiding place. They use their fins to feel their way around and, at times, to assert dominance during a territorial dispute.

Bloodworms + Angelfish = Wow

Hi everyone,

I hope you ate lots of chocolates this easter..but not too much.

Speaking of eating and feeding, here's a cool video of some angelfish going nuts over blood worms.

If you've never fed blood worms to your angels before, it's a good treat for them. The only small problem with feedin them this is that any uneaten worms will mess your water.

So keep this in mind.

Enjoy the video.

What the...???? Is it crazy that fish like this can be sold so cheap?

Another Bonus Added To Angelfish Guide

Hi Everyone,

Lately, I have had a number of people from our community want to know how to grow angelfish to monster sizes.

And you know what.

I was lucky enough to be shown what you need to do to get them like they have been injected with "BNGH" or locally as, "Bulgarian Nuclear Growth Hormones". This stuff is crazy!

Yeah, when I was younger, a retired angelfish pro told me his secrets of getting his angelfish to look thicker and longer.

And I've written it all down for you.

The first secret that I want to reveal to you is that you need to make sure you consistently provide your angelfish with clean, tank water.

So how do I do that? Simple...

You get into a routine of making partial water changes each week. If your water is clean, then your angelfish are going to be more healthy. And the healthier they are, the bigger they will grow.

In the Bonus guide, I reveal the other 4 secrets that you need to know to get your angels to huge sizes.

I even spill the beans on a 22 year old underground recipe, that will have your angelfish look like they have been taking 'roids. Just to let you in on a secret...the recipe involves beef heart, salmon and other goodies that angelfish crave.

This recipe has been so hot, that you will swear that your angels are growing in front of your eyes! It's amazing. And as for your breeding pairs...there spawns will be out of this world!!!

I don't know how long I will keep this FREE Bonus up. The reason is that I don't want people leeking the recipe and the secret tips out to others.

I had a few doubts putting it up, but for now, I'll keep it up there.

If you want to take a look at it, then you can go to Angelfish Revealed

I hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions, remember to email me or leave a comment on the blog.

Angelfish spawning on filters? I like to see that!

Hey guys,

Here is another video that someone has found on the net.

I wanted to point out that angelfish will spawn on almost anything if you give them the chance. If you haven't seen them spawn before, then here's a good video.

What you need to do is make sure is that if you intend on breeding them, then you have the right set up for it. Sponge filter, no gravel, own tank ect... are definates if you want to breed them. If not, them keep them as they are. They're fantastic fish to watch. There parent instincts are something to admire.

But for now...enjoy the video...

Proof : This Works Like Crazy!

Hi Everyone,

I received a terrific email from Amalie who was so ecstatic after buying How To Keep Happy, Healthy and Long Living Angelfish Audio guide that she took some video of what happenend.

But don't let me tell you about it. Read it here;

================================
Jamieson,

I just wanted to thank you for the audio guide. You will not believe what's gone on in my tank since!! As I write this email, it's been 3 months since I started following your advice. My angelfish are thriving in my tank, but better than that, there are new additions in my tank. That's right, I am proud parents of fry!!! I am so excited.

Just to fill you in, I have kept angelfish once before but never with such success. They died on me within a week of buying them. Anyway, I decided to keep them again and followed everything you said. And 3 months later, I have a pair of angelfish that lay eggs all the time.

Well, thanks again for your guide. Enjoy my video.

Yours sincerely,

Amalie

I am working out how to put the video here. It's sensational. Anyway, come back soon to watch it.

Making Money from Angelfish

Hi All,

I received an email from John in Australia, and he wanted to know "What size do you sell baby angels at?"

The answer to this will depend on what size the fish store wants to purchase them at. Some places won't buy them unless they are quarter size in body. Some will buy them at dime to nickel size. Normally, fish stores will take them when they are nickel size. When they are small, their immune system is still growing. As there is more chance that they may not survive when they are smaller, the fish stores will only buy them when they are a reasonable size. What is reasonable will depend on your fish store.

If anyone else sells their fish to stores, or wants to know more, send me your comments.

Enjoy the weekend.

Jamieson

Make Mine...A Planted Angelfish Tank!

So what plants should be added to your tank?

Simply put, most plants will be OK in an angelfish tank. Some however will be better suited. A common aquarium plant that is native to the natural environment of the angelfish is the Amazon Sword plant. It is a hardy plant and can be found in more than 50 different species. Since it originates from the same waters as the angelfish, both plant and fish will appreciate the same water quality when it comes to hardiness, pH-value, and temperature.

Other examples of suitable plants are Java Moss, Java Fern and Water Sprite (Ceratopteris).

Enjoy,

Jam

Please Sir..I need some more room!

Angels can get aggressive towards others when they begin to breed. Therefore, if you are going to breed angelfish, you may want to think about getting another tank. If you do this, you can then take your pair out of your community tank, and put them into the breeding one. Another idea is to take the other fish out of the tank, and house them in another tank.

But a few things about your breeding tank.

You should get a tank that holds at least 20 gallons of water. The breeding tank should not contain any substrate as this will affect water quality for your spawn. Therefore keep the tank with a bare bottom. Also, use a sponge filter so that fry cannot get trapped in the filter. Little water movement may also help the male when he runs his papilla over the eggs.

Now you are ready for spawns!

Have any questions? Use the comment feature to ask them there.

Angelfish spawning - Can't get enough

I don't think you can ever get enough of angelfish spawning.

Keep your angels happy and healthy, and you should get something like this happening every 10 - 21 days!

Jamieson

Do angelfish need more care than other types of fish?

Angels need no more care than any other tropical fish. There are four major areas that you should look after your fish.

The first one is that you keep your tank clean. That involves routines like keeping your tank clean, maintaining and observing your tank and angelfish on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and constantly making partial water changes.

Secondly, you need to make sure that you do not stress your fish out.

Thirdly, you need to make sure that you feed them a nutritious and varied diet.

Lastly, you need to try and prevent diseases occurring in your tank. If you can succeed in all these areas, then there is a very good chance that your fish will be healthy and happy.

Tip 1 : Buying an Angelfish from a LFS

Whatever you do, think about it long and hard before you buy an angelfish from a LFS. It pays to buy them from a local breeder, but if you have to, here's something to look out for.

Look for an angelfish where they are breathing normally. Compare the gill movement of a fish with other angels in the tank. Although fish with higher metabolic rates respire (breathe) a little faster, all of the fish in a tank will usually move their gills at roughly the same rate. Extremely rapid gill movement indicates stress.

If you are unsure if they look healthy or not, then don't buy them. Wait until you see the signs that they are healthy. If in doubt, buy them from a local breeder.

How many Angelfish Can I Keep in my Tank?

There are a number of reasons why you should only keep a limited number of Angelfish in your tank. The main reason is that if you have too many in your tank, theres a big chance that most will not survive.

So how many angelfish is ideal to keep in a tank?

Well, the golden rule is that you should keep 1 adult size angelfish to 10 gallons of water. Simple as that. For example, if you have a 40 gallon tank, the rule of thumb is to keep 4 angelfish. 50 gallons, 5 angels.

Hope that helps everyone who has asked the question.

Happy fishkeeping,

Jamieson

You Probably Didn't Know... Angelfish Fact

Did you know...

Aggression by angelfish to an opposite sexed intruder was markedly reduced when the mate was not there. Defence of their territory was not as vigorous just after the eggs had been released and fertilized. The angelfish of both sexes attacked intruders of the same sex more intensely than they attacked the opposite sex. Male angelfish were more aggressive than their female counterparts. It goes to show that their aggression to intruders serve to maintain their special bond!

I am going to buy some angels at the LFS. How do I know which ones to buy?

At the LFS, you can ask the store owner a few questions. One question you should ask is when the angels came in. If it has been only a couple of days, I would wait until some time has passed. You never know if they are carrying a disease, or are sick.

If it has been some time since they got them in, then approach the tank and see if there are any dead angels in there. Check that their fins are nice and straight. If you see fish huddling at the top, bottom or back of the tank, looking dejected, again, pass, as they are likely sick. Raise your hand to the top of the tank as if you are going to feed them. If they rush over to you, then it is likely that they are healthy.

You Probably Didn't Know about Angelfish... Fact #1

Did you know...

The dominant angelfish is more likely to inspect a predator with more caution compared to middle and lower ranking fish. In other words, the dominant angelfish in your tank is likely to be more cautious of someone new than your other angels.

Therefore, if you wonder why the most aggressive angelfish keeps more of a distance from new people staring into their tank than the other angels, then you know why. They will approach the new face, but from a relatively safer distance than the other angels.

What are the best fish to keep with Angels?

Most community fish will live happily with angels. Guppies, platties and tetras all make good companions with angels. What you need to make sure of is that you do not introduce fish that are commonly known for fin nipping. Gouramis and barbs are well known for this, so make sure they are not added.

Just make sure that the fish you want living with angels are peaceful fish and not constantly “flying” around the tank. Also, make sure they are not too small.
If they are small, then your angels my find them too tempting not to eat.
